New York and Puerto Rico – Connected by History, Culture, and Giving Back

This week we focus heavily on the rich connection between the island of Puerto Rico and the Hispanic population that emigrated to New York State, contributing so much to our modern cultural makeup. Carmen Villafane, of New York Foundling, discusses with us the Head Start Division of her organization and the work it is undertaking to alleviate the educational and developmental disparities faced by children in Puerto Rico. Teresa Santiago of TAS Communications LLC then joins us to discuss the “I Am Because We Are” Conference that took place in Puerto Rico between November 9th and 12th. The conference was sponsored by SOMOS Inc., a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of the Hispanic population in New York State.
