Disability Pride and the Choctaw Gift: Stories of Strength and Compassion

On today’s episode of JustLove, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan marks Disability Pride Month and the upcoming 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by speaking with Travis Davis, a two-time TEDx speaker, certified ADA coordinator, and podcast host, about his mission to help individuals and organizations “get off the crutch” – both literally and metaphorically – and what true disability pride looks like in today’s world. In the second half of the show, Monsignor Sullivan reflects on the recent celebration of the Feast of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint, in a conversation with Judy Allen, Historic Projects Officer for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. They discuss the Choctaw people’s remarkable gift of relief funds to the Irish during the Potato Famine of 1847, just 17 years after their own suffering during the Trail of Tears, and the lasting legacy of this historic act of compassion and solidarity.
