On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about Catholic efforts to abolish the death penalty in response to the resumption of executions on the Federal level back in July 2020, and during this season of Advent, a discussion of “Mary on the Mantel” – an Advent alternative to the “Elf on the Shelf”.
Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy is the Executive Director of the Catholic Mobilizing Network, a national organization that seeks to mobilize Catholics and others of goodwill to end the use of the Death Penalty here in the United States and promote restorative justice. Over the past several months when the Federal Government resumed the use of the Death Penalty in July 2020, resulting in the execution of 8 Federal Death Row inmates since the summer as well as the scheduled execution of another 5 Federal Death Row inmates between now and January 2021, Krisanne shares with us a bit about this situation, what can be potentially done to remedy it, and why time is of the essence in these 5 remaining cases.
Erica Tighe Campbell is the Owner and Founder of “Be A Heart” – a Catholic lifestyle brand of original collections of textiles, apparel, accessories, party goods, art prints, and award-winning calligraphy. During this season of Advent when so much of the preparation for Christmas is purely commercial, Erica shares with us a bit about her idea of “Mary on the Mantel” – an Advent alternative to the ubiquitous “Elf on the Shelf’ doll, which encourages children to practice small acts of kindness and charity throughout Advent as they prepare for Jesus’s arrival at Christmas.
