Celebration of Both Saint Patrick’s Day and Saint Joseph’s Day; and A Campaign to Organize Amazon Workers

On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about the Feast Days of St. Patrick and St. Joseph, and he also has a discussion with a union organizer from the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union (RWDSU) about the union’s current campaign to organize Amazon workers at the company’s fulfillment center in Bessemer, Alabama.

Paul Moses is currently a freelance writer and current contributor to Commonweal Magazine, and the author of the book “An Unlikely Union: The Love-Hate Story of New York’s Irish and Italians.”. During this weekend before the celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day on March 17 and Saint Joseph’s Day on March 19, Paul Moses shares with us a bit about what the experiences of the Irish and Italian immigrants to New York of the last century were like, and what lessons – if any – these experiences can teach us about the Immigrant Experience today.

Joshua Brewer is a Union Organizer and Area Representative for the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union (RWDSU) based in Birmingham, Alabama. On the show today, Joshua Brewer talks to us about his work and RWDSU’s current Campaign to organize Amazon workers at that company’s fulfillment center, and what the potential significance of a win for the union at the warehouse would mean should the RWDSU succeed.
