Responding to Humanitarian Need and Confronting History

On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan welcomes guests for two thoughtful conversations highlighting faith, compassion, and justice in action. In the first segment, Beth Knobbe, Advisor of Church Engagement for Catholic Relief Services, discusses the organization’s response to the recent earthquake in Venezuela. She explains how Catholic Relief Services is working with local partners to provide emergency assistance to families affected by the disaster, addresses the ongoing humanitarian challenges facing communities throughout the region, and shares how individuals and faith communities can support relief efforts and long-term recovery.

In the second segment, Monsignor Sullivan is joined by Monique Trusclair Maddox, President and CEO of the Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation, and Father Tim Kesicki, SJ, the Foundation’s Board Chair. Together, they examine the lasting impact of the 1838 sale of more than 300 enslaved men, women, and children by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a sale that helped finance Georgetown University, and discuss the Foundation’s mission to promote truth, healing, education, and restorative justice. Their conversation explores how acknowledging history, building relationships, and fostering reconciliation can help create a more just and hopeful future for generations to come.
