A Conversation on the Republican Party’s 2020 Platform and the Critically Acclaimed Documentary “Boys State”

On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about the Republican platform during election year and the documentary “Boys State.”

Dr. Robin Armstrong is a physician and a politician who was elected as the National Committeeman from Texas to the Republican National Committee in June of 2012 and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Southern Region to the Republican National Committee. Dr. Armstrong talks to us about the Republican Party Platform for this year’s convention.

Jesse Moss is the Director, Producer, and Cinematographer for the 2020 American Documentary Film “Boys State” released by A24 and Apple TV + on August 14th. Jesse talks about the critically acclaimed film, which follows a thousand teenage boys attending the Boys State program run by the American Legion in Austin Texas in 2018. There they are tasked to come together to build a representative government from the ground up, navigating challenges of organizing political parties, consensus, and campaigning for the highest office at Boys State – governor. The film won the U.S. Documentary Competition Grand Jury Prize when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2020.

Amanda McBaine is the Director and Sundance Award-winning Producer of the 2020 documentary film “Boys State” in which she made her feature directing debut.

Steven Garza is one of the principal subjects of the 2020 Sundance Award-winning documentary film “Boys State.” Steven, a child of Mexican immigrants, shares with us a bit about what it was like to participate in the Boys State program run by the American Legion in Austin Texas in 2018. Steven was an underdog challenger whose background and political views place him squarely outside the mainstream at Boys State, and yet he rose at the competition as a result of calling the other boys to their highest ideals.
