Social Justice Aspects of the V Enuentro and CUNY Students Help Rebuilding Puerto Rico
On this week’s episode of JustLove, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about the V Encuentro Conference and the continued recovery of Puerto Rico.
Richard Espinal is the Associate Director for Parish and Community Engagement for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and a member of the Region II (New York State) Planning Committee for V Encuentro. Richard will be discussing some of the social justice aspects and concerns that are in discussion as part of the planning for the “V Encuentro” which will be taking place down in Grapevine, Texas from September 20th to 23rd.
Ian Morris from Queens, New York, is a college senior at CUNY’s Hunter College and has returned just 10 days ago from a trip to the town of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. While there, he spent two weeks volunteering on behalf of CUNY Service Corps – Puerto Rico’s response to rebuilding the island in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria that hit the island last September. Ian shares with our listeners the experiences he and his fellow CUNY volunteers had in Puerto Rico, all as part of the summer-long “N.Y. Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative” first announced by Governor Cuomo back in April 2018.
