A Recent Decrease in Immigration to New York City and the Wildfires on the West Coast

On this week’s episode of JustLove, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about the Census and the wildfires in California.

Michael Hendrix is the Director of State and Local Policy for the Manhattan Institute, a non-profit American think tank located in New York City which focused on U.S. domestic policy and urban affairs with the mission to develop and disseminate new ideas that foster greater economic choice and individual responsibility. Michael talks about a recent U.S. Census survey that found a 45% drop in immigration to New York City over the past several years, and what that drop in immigration is likely to mean for New York City’s future economic growth and social wellbeing.

Dr. Stephanie Pincetl, Ph.D. is the Chair of Environmental Sciences and the Founding Director & Professor in Residence of the California Center for Sustainable Communities at UCLA where she studies the intersection of urban policy and the environment. During this week that we have continued to see our Western States ravaged by wildfires, Dr. Pincetl talks to us about some of the causes of those wildfires, and what might be done to help mitigate them in the future.
