Lent 2021 in China and in El Salvador

On this week’s episode of Just Love. Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about Lent and Religious Restrictions in the People’s Republic of China and also the Work that Catholic Relief Services does in El Salvador to improve farming, food security, and water resources.

Sarah Cook is the Research Director for China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan at Freedom House, a Washington D.C.-based, U.S. government-funded non-profit non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on democracy, political freedom, and human rights. On this First Weekend on Lent, Sarah Cook talks about some of the work that she does at Freedom House looking at religious practices and communities in the People’s Republic of China, and how the Chinese government treats and restricts the practices of religious communities, particularly the Christian community as well as the Uyghur Muslim Community.

Paul Hicks is a Water Restoration and Agricultural Expert with Catholic Relief Services based in El Salvador. Paul Hicks shares a bit about the work that Catholic Relief Services does in El Salvador to improve the local farming there, improve food security and water resources – all of which is supported through Catholic Relief Services annual Lenten Giving Program CRS Rice Bowl.
