Growing Protestant Interest in the Virgin Mary and the Black Women’s Struggle to Secure the Right to Vote

On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about growing Protestant interest in the Virgin Mary and how Mary herself can help to promote the Gospel that is common to all Christians. Prof. Matthew Milliner, Ph.D. is the Associate Professor of Art History at Wheaton College a Christian residential liberal arts college located in the Chicago area. During this week, we commemorate the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Prof. Matthew Milliner, Ph.D. talks with us about his experience of the growing Protestant interest in the Virgin Mary he has experienced with his students, and how Mary herself can help to promote the Gospel that is common to all Christians.

Prof. Martha Jones, JD, Ph.D. is the Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and Professor of History at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University. During this week we commemorate the 101st Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage, Prof. Martha Jones, author of the recent book: “Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All,” shares with us a bit about the Woman’s Suffrage Movement, its relationship to black women and the history of the struggle of black women to secure the right to the franchise that is detailed in her book “Vanguard”.
