Conversations with the Presidents of CNEWA and World Food Program USA about the Situation in Ukraine and the Problem of Food Insecurity

Christians living in Ukraine will be celebrating Holy Week while under the threat of war and hunger. Msgr. Peter Vaccari will help us to understand their experiences and the work of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) and its impact on the region. Following this, we will talk with Barron Segar, President and CEO of the World Food Program USA. His expertise will help us understand the ripple effects of war on the global wheat supply, rising food prices, and collateral hunger across the world.

Msgr. Peter Vaccari is President of the CNEWA which was founded by Pope Pius XI in 1926 to support Eastern Churches throughout the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India, and Eastern Europe. Msgr. Vaccari will share with us a bit about what CNEWA is doing in Ukraine and what Catholics might experience during this Holy Week and Easter holiday during a time of war.

Barron Segar is President and CEO of World Food Program USA, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to building support within the United States for the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) – the largest humanitarian organization working to alleviate hunger in the world globally. We will talk with Mr. Segar about the role of the WFP in alleviating hunger in Ukraine, and how the destabilization of the country is leading to food insecurity elsewhere in the world.
